This last Saturday, was my absolute favorite man's 35th birthday. We started with some yummy mini pancake puffs with strawberries, sausage and orange juice. YUM! We also learned that Sarah is not allowed to see the presents because she blurted out all of Mark's presents to him during breakfast and so he opted to open them after breakfast along with his cards.
Next we all scurried about to get ready and on the road for Mark's birthday activity. He decided to go to Fossil Butte National Monument over in Kemmerer. It was so interesting! They coined it "America's Aquarium in Stone" and it did not disappoint! Some of the best preserved fossils in the world can be found there and they were incredible. The visitor's center was a blast and they even had some rubbings for the kids to do and they had fun with that.
We then went and did a nature trail with the kidlets. Jacob led our expedition, Sarah only fell once resulting in blood (trust me, this is an accomplishment! She is not the most graceful little thing and is quite clumsy), and Benjamin slept most of the time. The neat thing was that this trail takes you up to the spot where they are currently excavating fossils. This was cool to be able to see it all happening in action.
After our hike, we had some lunch. Then we headed up on a drive up to the butte to get a more scenic look. It was amazing to think it all used to be a giant subtropical lake!
We will definitely have to come back! It was a great place to explore and nice that it was so close!
Later that night, we went and tried Zipz for Mark's birthday dinner. It was yummy and a fun atmosphere but by the time we got our food, Sarah had an accident. Luckily, it's an outdoor restaurant! So we promptly cleaned up and packed up our food and went back home to eat. Life with a toddler.
We ended the evening with a citrus bundt cake which tasted a lot better than it looked! I blame you Pam.
We had a wonderful day celebrating this amazing man in our lives. We are so lucky to have him. He is our biggest supporter, comforter, and tickler. We love you.
