Jacob's 5th Birthday

Happy 5th Birthday, my happy boy!

Where is the time going?!  I cannot believe that Jacob is five years old.  There has been so much growth in Jacob this year.  We are so proud of our little man and who he is becoming.  He is an amazing brother.  He loves to play with Sarah and Benjamin.  He is a great helper and loves to have "jobs".  He loves to learn and would do his workbook all day - every day if I let him.  He loves to read and I am amazed at how quickly he is learning to read.  He loves to run (like Dash!) and dance.  He likes butterflies and ladybugs but does not like bees and spiders.  He loves to do crafts and color.  He is our Jacob and we love every bit of him.

Some of his favorites are (and this was the first year that I asked Jacob rather than putting what I observed his favorites to be):

Books:  Cars Storybook Collection, Too Many Carrots by Katy Hudson, Mix It Up! by Herve Tullet.
Movies:  The BFG and The Incredibles
Activities:  Playing games with Daddy, reading stories and swimming
Food:  Apples, muffins and bread
Games:  Go Fish and Ticket to Ride Junior
Songs:  I Love to See the Temple; I Am a Child of God, and Better When I'm Dancing (from The Peanuts Movie)
Favorite Thing to Do at School:  Color

Jacob really lucked out in the birthday department this year with what felt like a three-day party!

We had his birthday party on Friday afternoon.  Grandpa and Grandma Berning, Gramps and Grammy, Aunt Melina, and Great Grandma Moldenhauer were all there.  Jacob chose a camping theme this year - which is why we had his party on Friday.  Because we were camping out!

We started the festivities with a craft.  We made lanterns out of tin cans and the kiddos picked a design to make.

Next, we played a game of park ranger!  The park ranger stood in the middle and everyone picked an animal (but kept it secret!).  The park ranger would say a description of an animal and if it fit your you had to run across without the park ranger tagging you.  This game might have been a little too advanced for our kiddos - they definitely got distracted in the whole tagging people phase.  But it was funny to watch and I think they had a good time.

After a couple round of park ranger, we had some dinner.  We roasted hot dogs in the fire pit and had chips and watermelon with some root beer.  YUM!  And, of course, we had to feed the horses too!

Next was presents!  Jacob is so lucky to have so many people who love him.  He got some super fun presents and we topped it all off with a new bike from Mom and Dad!

To finish off the festivities we had cake!

That ended the formal festivities of things and we put up on tents.  Mark, Jacob and Sarah slept in our tent and my Dad set up a tent for him.  We did smores (but how any of us had any room for them I don't know!) around the campfire.  Then it was time for bed!

The kids were really excited to sleep outside.  Mark said Sarah commented on how beautiful the tent was about a dozen times.

Saturday morning, we swam in the pool and then played outside.  Alicia and Brigham came over to play for a little bit and had lunch with us.

In the afternoon, my Mom, Melina and I walked down to the KOA and had snow cones (while the kiddos slept) and I drove up and showed them our new lot in Bloomington.  Then we picked up Grandma and went out to dinner.  It was great to have some girl time with Grandma.

Sunday was Jacob's actual birthday!  When I told Sarah to wish Jacob a "happy birthday" she said, "AGAIN!".  Haha!  We had a special birthday breakfast for our birthday boy and then played and god ready for church.

It worked out really nice because it was Brennen's farewell that day as well.  He did such an amazing job.  All I could think about was how proud I knew my Grandpa Moldenhauer was feeling.

After Sacrament Meeting, we went up to Curtis and Rebecca's for a luncheon.  It was fun to see so much family and friends.  Jacob had a blast jumping on the trampoline and Sarah had a good ole' time running away from us CONSTANTLY and wanting to put her feet in the water.

We came home and played with some of Jacob's new gifts and relaxed a little from our big weekend.  It was a great day and we love our big five year old man.
