Thanksgiving

I love Thanksgiving!  I really do.  I think it is a beautiful holiday to celebrate our blessings, our families and our friends.  We spent the day busy in the kitchen in our pjs!  The Zurchers invited us over for Thanksgiving dinner and that was so much fun.  We are grateful for the friendship we have with them and that our two little families could spend the holiday together.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Our Little Helper

Let me just say, Jacob has spoiled us rotten.  Really.  I love love love our little boy.  He is just a joy to be around.  No, every moment isn't butterflies and rainbows BUT he is the sweetest little boy and I really just love him.

There are many, many reasons why I love that little boy but one thing that has been so fun to watch the last couple of weeks is how helpful Jacob is becoming.  I love seeing more and more how his mind works and how he processes information.  And we are definitely in a "monkey see, monkey do" stage.  He loves to do what we do.

Jacob likes to brush his own teeth!  What a helper!  <For the record, adult brushing of Jacob's teeth also takes place!>  LOVE IT!

He loves to load the dryer.  I hand him the clothes from the washer and he puts them in.  LOVE IT!

When I am making our bed in the morning, Jacob brings me all of the pillows.  This morning, after I was done getting ready in the bathroom I actually came out and found most of them already on top of our bed.  LOVE IT!

Jacob has been doing this for quite a while, but we don't even have to ask any more for him to pick up his toys.  Every day before nap or bedtime, we'll say it's time to clean up and he'll go start putting his blocks, books and other toys away.  Melts my heart.  LOVE IT!

We love you, Jacob!

Family Pictures

About a month ago my friend, Natalee, took some family pictures of us and I love them.  She did such a great job.  I am so grateful that she was willing to do them.  And I am so happy that we have some really awesome professional pictures of Jacob.  I love them.  Thanks again, Natalee!

Zoo Day

Yesterday we went to the Denver Zoo!  It was a beautiful day and it was so much fun to spend some time together as a family.  Jacob was such a trooper because we went right in the middle of his nap time but was a perfect little angel.  We love our little boy.

We loved looking at the elephants!  They had the cutest little baby elephant too which was fun to watch.

AND, right after we walked in someone asked us if we had time to take a survey.  We did it and they gave us free tokens to ride the carousel and the train!  WOOT WOOT!  The line was really long for the train though so we just rode the carousel.  Although it doesn't look like it, I know our little guy had fun riding his rhino!

Become Stronger

I just finished our 2012 Scrapbook for us and I also made one for Jacob and I love how they turned out.  LOVE LOVE LOVE them.  Can you tell I am excited about them?!  I did Jacob's a little differently but for Mark and I's I included all of my blog posts (which is essentially my journaling) and added them to our scrapbook and I love reading through them.  Being able to read in detail what was going on with the pictures really makes that time of our lives come alive to me (even if it wasn't that long ago).  I definitely feel like it will be something I treasure my whole life.

So with that, I have a renewed determination to be more real in our blog.  And by that I mean that when it's a cruddy week - say that it was a cruddy week, because well, that's real life.

This week was a cruddy week.  I just kind of felt bombarded by all sorts of emotions.  I felt very up and down.  I feel like right now we are in this waiting area for so many things and pretty much all of them are out of my control.  I don't like it.  This week I have just felt really anxious, emotional and a little lonely.

But I also feel like I have also been exceptionally blessed the last week as well.  Throughout all of these feelings of anxiety, doubt and fear I have had countless moments where I know that I am not alone.  These tender mercies came at exactly the moments when I needed them the most and have really meant a lot to me.

One of them came to me through the words of one of Jacob's picture books.  I was sitting there reading to Jacob in his rocking chair when the words to this book just touched my heart in a really simple and beautiful way.  It was exactly what I needed to hear right then.

Another tender mercy that I keep going back to over and over again was a talk I read a couple of days ago by President Monson.  It was from this last month's general conference and I just cried the whole time I was reading it.  I love our sweet Prophet.  My heart just hurts for him and the pain that he has and continues to feel for the loss of his wife.  My heartaches right now are nothing compared to his.  But they are still important to me and therefore I know that they are also important to the Lord.  He said some things that have just really touched me.

"Whenever we are inclined to feel burdened down with the blows of life, let us remember that others have passed the same way, have endured, and then have overcome.

Our Heavenly Father, who gives us so much to delight in, also knows that we learn and grow and become stronger as we face and survive the trials through which we must pass.  We know that there are times when we will experience heartbreaking sorrow, when we will grieve, and when we may be tested to our limits.  However, such difficulties allow us to change for the better, to rebuild our lives in the way our Heavenly Father teaches us, and to become something different from what we were - better than we were, more understanding than we were, more empathetic than we were, with stronger testimonies than we had before.

This should be our purpose - to persevere and endure, yes, but also to become more spiritually refined as we make our way through sunshine and sorrow."

Now, I am most definitely not going through a time of great sorrow or even any major trial and for that I am grateful.  Just a period of uncertainty.  I am also grateful for the presence of the Spirit in our home.  That as soon as I feel those moments of uncertainty building up inside of me I receive a confirmation that it will all work out.  I am grateful for faith.  And I am grateful for this week, even though it was hard, because I think I am stronger now than I was at the beginning of the week.

I know this post was a little heavy.  But this week kind of felt heavy around here.  Here's hoping for better weeks ahead!

Also, we are going to the zoo tomorrow for family fun day - I am PUMPED!

Walking

Jacob is FINALLY walking!  We are so excited, proud, a little nervous, all of the normal emotions probably attached to your little baby starting to walk.  But mostly excited!

I have to admit, I was beginning to have a little anxiety about the whole "walking" thing - just because I thought it would happen sooner.  But I have learned a lot about Jacob and his little personality.  From Day One Jacob has been a little Angel Baby in temperament.  With that, Jacob is very content.  He is not a "high-maintenance" type of guy!  He has a very relaxed attitude about things.  He doesn't like to be pushed into new situations.  And as much as we tried to encourage walking he just wasn't feeling it.  After awhile we just decided that when he was ready, he would do it.  And that's exactly what he did.  It seemed to happen overnight!  All of a sudden he just popped up and started toddling everywhere

We are so proud of our little toddler!  I love that little boy so much.  He brings me an incredible amount of joy every day.  I love learning more and more about him and seeing the connections that he makes with the world around him.  I love being a mom.

Also, this video pretty much makes my day.  Plus some other pictures as of late that just warm my heart.  Enjoy!
